There are no guarantees, however to ensure the likelihood your advertisement prints as intended, please review and submit according to the guidelines and requirements outlined below.

Photoshop & Page Layout Guidelines:

  1. Dot Gain set to 30% - SWOP newsprint
  2. Grayscale Images: Resolution at 200 dpi
  3. 4-color Images: Resolution at 200 dpi
  4. Total ink density for 4-color images should not exceed 250%
  5. Line art: Resolution at 600 dpi
  6. Shadow Dot should be between 80% - 90%
  7. High Light Dot should be between 5% -10%
  8. Images should be sized in Photoshop not in your page layout application
  9. All Pantone colors must be converted to CMYK
  10. All RGB images must be converted to CMYK
  11. No Packed/Warm Black (CMYK) type or images
  12. Black type should be set to over print
  13. Type in a black reverse should be 10 point bold or greater
  14. Type in a color reverse should be 12 point or greater
  15. Type in a 4-color reverse should be 14 point bold or greater
  16. Scanned type should be re-typeset

Note: Scans from printed materials – black & white or full color newspapers, magazines, brochures, etc. — will NOT reproduce well.


PDF REQUIREMENTS:

  1. All type fonts and graphics must be embedded in the PDF.
  2. The PDF document size may be 1/8” larger than the image. The live image must be centered within the overall document (white space must be even on all 4 sides). Printed image size is not to exceed standard image area.
  3. No crop marks, crosshairs, color bars, etc. to be in image area or document.
  4. All 4 color to be saved as 4 color process CMYK, not RGB.
  5. All black only ads to be saved as Grayscale composite.
  6. All black type on color must be saved as plain black (100% K) not registration black, or rich black.
  7. Black text should be set to overprint color backgrounds.
  8. Ad file must be complete without separate elements to be “bumped in.”
  9. Spot color PDFs must be in composite form. Use Cyan or Magenta in your layout and PDF as the spot color, regardless of which ink color will be used for printing.
